My best advice is to refrain from driving in severe winter conditions if you can. But if you can’t, here are a few tips to help you reach your destination safely. Before You Leave, winter-proof your vehicle. Carry blankets or sleeping bags and extra sets of clothes, gloves, hats, and boots. Stock your vehicle with a first aid kit, jumper cables, flashlight, shovel, scraper, and a bag of sand. Also, if you have one, fully charge your cell phone before leaving and bring a charger with you. Clear off your vehicle. Scrape all windows, clear snow off headlights and license plates, and warm your car up for a few minutes.
While on the road BE CAUTIOUS. Don’t pull out in front of anyone if you are not sure you can make it. Look before you turn or proceed through an intersection. Watch for shaded spots, bridges, overpasses, and intersections where ice may form first and linger after other parts of the road are clear. Navigating through a slide-Don’t panic. Look where you want your vehicle to go and steer in that direction. Do not brake. Do not accelerate.

Hey Guys!

The Cincinnati Soap Box Derby needs our help. Jump onto the Pepsi cola website here to vote and they could win a grant to sponsor their fantastic event.

The Cincinnati Soap Box Derby works with area youth organizations (Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, JDRF & others) to provide cars that kids can race. They also work with the Cinti Police and Mayor to target kids and city neighborhoods to get involved and work together, building a team to boost community pride. A $25K grant will allow them to get more kids involved. Unlike many youth sports & activities, where parents drop their kids off for practice and then sit on the sidelines or stands as they play, the Derby is a family sport where parents, mentors and siblings are part of the team. This is their 5th year back in Cincinnati and while they have received many accolades for the work done so far, they are still struggling financially. Winning a $25,000 grant will allow them to do more for the kids they serve.
